Popcorn Additions and Substitutions
Oil – Instead of vegetable oil, you can substitute coconut oil for a touch of a sweeter flavor.
Salt – Salt is always yummy on popcorn, but other seasonings can be added. See below for a list of our favorites.
Best Popcorn Seasonings
When you add seasoning to popcorn, you can add it before cooking or after cooking, as long as it doesn’t contain sugar. If you’re adding a sweet seasoning, don’t add it to the instant pot before cooking, as it could burn.

What Goes Good With Popcorn?
Popcorn is great on its own, but goes well with other finger foods like chips, pretzels, and candy. We love having popcorn and soda on our at-home movie nights. Lemonade and iced tea are yummy as well! Want to make your popcorn night fancy? Red wine or Perrier are great choices!

Notes and Helpful Tips
- Don’t add your oil until the instant pot is hot and you can add your popcorn too! If you add the oil early, it begins to cook before it coats your popcorn.
- If you’re adding additional seasoning after cooking, add it while the popcorn is still hot.
- If you want to add some extra butter, slowly melt 3-4 tbsp (more or less depending on your taste) of butter in the microwave and pour it over your popcorn. Stir well to coat the popcorn and serve while hot!
